English – Prior knowledge

Ehara tāku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini

My strength is not mine alone, but as a collective

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify different ways that societies govern themselves.
  •  Monitor and evaluate our individual learning progress

Success Criteria:

We will achieve this by:

  • Identify and explain two government structures.
  • Understand the different forms of governance in Māori societies.

I think this subject is going to be interesting to do.

the two types of government I know are North Korea which is a dictatorship and Constitutional republic for Russia

I think the role the government is to make sure the country is working properly and making sure we have a safe relationship with other countries

Does the government always do what is right for the people? i think most of the time the government does what is right for the people.

English – Gloriavale

hello in english today we learnt about gloriavale which is a place in new Zealand where it a cult.

I had to answer a bunch of questions these are the answers and questions.

  • What are the traditional roles of men, women and children that are shown in this community?

men go to work at the farm, and the women do the dishes and chores. For everyone in the gloriavale.

  • At what age are members of Gloriavale expected to begin work?

i believe at age 9 – 14 after school hours in with their parents.

  • What role does Religion play in the lives of Gloriavale members

everything they do there is about their religion, and how the roles are in the place.

  • Do you think the people living in Gloriavale are happy? Why or why not

i think that some of them are if they were born into it, but if they were brought into gloriavale they would not be happy.

  • Do you think the people in Gloriavale experience Human Rights?

i would say they would not have all of them, but the only human right i know they have is the right to education.

  • Would you be happy to live in a community like Gloriavale. Why or why not?

No I would not because I like having freedom of speech and human rights and i would like to be able to go out and hang with my friends.

Cybersafety – Images

Hi today I am going to tell you what I learnt about what images should be put online.

I found out that an image with your mail box is not allowed, because it can give away where you live.

Another fact about images that you post is, in your house you should not post a picture in your bedroom or your bathroom. the reason is because it might show to some people that you are easy to target.

I found it informative to do this activity because it showed me what images i should post and what images i should not post.

Abomination – Before Reading

Hi today I am going to tell you about my english class that I had today.

we are going to do a novel study and this is my thoughts on what i think is going to happen in the book, with only seeing the cover.

  • What do you think the story will be about?

I think the story is about a boy that is trapped in a cage in someones house, and is made to be a slave.

  • How do you think this story will be written? e.g First person/third person/ diary etc.

I think it is going to be written in first person, because of the cover and how the main bit is a boy in a cage.

  • Why do you think the story is called Abomination?

because there might be a man who brought the boy in the cover picture and the boy hates the man.

  • Where do you think the story will take place?

I would say a country that still has child slavery, such as Pakistan or Burundi.

Private and personal information

Hi today I am going to tell you what I have done about private and personal information.

We learnt about what information we can share to the public and what information we should not share to people we don’t know.

Personal information is where you can share what sport you play but not where it is,

Private information is if you are asked when you’re  going to share you birth date instead you should just say if your and adult, or what year you are at school.

I found this cool to do because it was fun to do.
