Home economics – Cupcake Icing

Home economics – Cupcake Icing

Hi today I am going to tell you about what I have been doing in cooking the last 2 weeks.

we have been making a plan on how to make cupcakes, and what we are doing for the icing and fondant.

The people in my group are Oliver, Jonty, Cayleigh and I.

We decided to make swells around the cupcake and put 3 fondant egg middle sized in the middle of the cupcake on top of the icing.

We got given a mystery ingredient, that we had to incorporate in our cupcakes. The mystery ingredient was oreos, we got giving 6 of them, we crushed them up in a bowl and them sprinkled them on the cupcakes.

The colors we choose were green for the icing, and the flavor we chose for it was salted caramel, the color for the eggs were blue.

here is the recipe that we used-

125 g Margarine / Butter

¾ c Sugar

1 t Vanilla Essence

2 Eggs (size 7)

1½ c Plain Flour

2 t Baking Powder

½ c Milk

Method:

  1. Cream margarine in a large bowl. Use a wooden spoon
  2. Add sugar and continue creaming until light and fluffy in texture
  3. Add vanilla essence and beat briefly
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after you have added each egg
  5. Sift flour and baking powder onto a large plate
  6. Using a rubber scraper, scrape all the mixture off the wooden spoon
  7. Add sifted flour /baking powder mix and fold in half the milk using the rubber scraper
  8. Repeat step 7 for the next flour mix and the rest of the milk. Do not overmix
  9. Add the last of the flour and gently fold this into the cake batter
  10. Carefully spoon cake batter evenly into 12 paper cases
  11. Bake at 180°C for 7 min then turn oven to Fan Bake for a further 6 – 8 min
